Help Stop St. Louis Children’s Hospital From Using Cats And Ferrets In Intubation Exercises

If you were in the medical profession and learning how to intubate babies, which would you prefer: learning on humanlike manikins (which I might point out would not be suffering at your hands), or using live cats, repeatedly pushing a hard plastic tube down their throats until they are bleeding, swelling and scarred to the point where they are no longer useful and need to be killed?

I myself would choose the manikin, mostly because I don’t like to cause suffering to other living beings. The manikins maybe don’t squirm, but they are very lifelike and the exact dimensions of a real baby, unlike a cat which admittedly is configured a bit differently.

St. Louis Children’s Hospital is using cats and ferrets for cruel intubation exercises in its Pediatric Advanced Life Support course despite the availability of manikins and advanced simulators.

I used to think that Taco was a big cat, but then Bella moved in and took over the food bowl, now she’s positively gigantic. I guess after being on the streets and going hungry a lot she’s real careful now about not missing a meal.

Dog Saves His Own Life By Honking Car Horn

Apparently the dog’s owner forgot the dog was in the car. After investigating the honking horn, she realized it was her DOG alerting her to the fact that he was locked in the car, and overheated. That is one smart doggie!

Years ago I had a friend who knew how to card and spin wool. She had quite a few llamas and made some extra money by shearing them and selling the finished yarn. This gave her an idea to try saving dog fur and spinning that into yarn, which she then knitted into a sweater! It was very soft, but the big problem was if it got damp, it smelled like WET DOG. So I guess it wasn’t such a good idea. I’ve always wondered if the same could be done with cat fur, and lo and behold, I’ve found a video about a woman who is a groomer and gathers up the cat fur, cards and spins it, then knits handbags with the yarn. This is a very interesting video:

Since ORANGE is not one of my favorite colors, we really couldn’t find any orange stuff in the house. But outside we have a few pots of nasturtiums growing in various shades of red, orange and yellow. This prompted a cat and nasturtium photoshoot, and this is what we came up with:
