Plastic is made from petrochemicals, the same source as the gas that you use in your car. Different types of plastic use different processes, but they all use a variety of toxic chemicals which leach into whatever food or beverage they touch. These chemicals have been linked to cancer, fertility problems, and many other diseases. They are foreign to our environment, they DO NOT BIO-DEGRADE, they poison the environment, and stay there forever. The cans that your food (and your cat’s) come in are lined with plastic, another excellent reason to use only fresh, raw, organic food for your cat (see slanker’s grass-fed meats). You can get beautiful glass dishes and bowls at the Salvation Army Store or Goodwill or whatever second-hand store is in your area.

Keep your kitty and yourself healthy by using glass bowls, and eliminating the toxic chemical cleaners, bath products, scents, etc. Keep our planet healthy too by eliminating as much plastic as possible, remember it stays around forever polluting everything it comes into contact with. There is a huge area in the Pacific ocean that has so much plastic that the animals are all dieing from it. Take care of the other animals and the Earth by using as little plastic as possible.

Ya know, I have been reading a lot about this lately. Some of the stuff I’ve read about plastic and vinyl is absolutely shocking and verrrrry scarrrrry! Think of the vinyl in your car (dash, seats, etc)…let’s off a toxic gas when it gets hot. Think how hot your car gets in the summertime. No telling what toxicity we are breathing when we get in! So yeah, plastic is baaaaad.

Kelly, I’m doing a post about plastic on my other blog, creatingwealthandhealth.info, the more research I do the more I am appalled. We are literally condemning our planet with the use of plastic. Watch for my other post, it should be done by tomorrow I hope. Thanks for your comment.

We have stainless steel bowls for our dogs. Just as good as glass and less likely to be accidentally shattered. (Rusty shattered the ONE glass bowl we used to feed him out of)

  • Rebecca:

My thought patterns are geared to cats(!!) so yes, glass might be a problem with dogs, however when researching stainless steel I found that some had nickel which could poison the animal after awhile, especially for a water bowl. I have to look into this one too, but I think high-quality stainless should be oK. Some ceramic is fine while others are not…more research coming on this too! Thanks for your comment!

  • Cynthia Blue:

A lot of dog people recommend stainless steel. It’s easy to wash and doesn’t keep germs, either.

I haven’t used glass.. but my dogs are big, and could break it. :)
